Safeguarding Policy

Total Health Physiotherapy Ltd is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all patients, including children and vulnerable adults.
This policy outlines how safeguarding concerns are recognised and managed in line with UK legislation and professional standards set by the HCPC.

Responsibility
As a sole practitioner, the physiotherapist is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and is responsible for recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns.

Scope
This policy applies to:
• Children and young people
• Vulnerable adults
• Pregnant and postnatal patients

Recognising Safeguarding Concerns
Safeguarding concerns may arise where there are indications of:
• Physical abuse
• Emotional or psychological abuse
• Sexual abuse
• Neglect
• Domestic abuse
Concerns may be identified through:
• Disclosure by the patient
• Observations of behaviour or physical signs
• Inconsistent or concerning information

Responding to Concerns
If a safeguarding concern arises:
• The practitioner will listen carefully and take concerns seriously
• Accurate, factual notes will be recorded
• Confidentiality will not be promised where safeguarding is at risk
If there is immediate danger, emergency services will be contacted.

Reporting
Where appropriate, concerns may be reported to:
• Local safeguarding authorities
• The patient’s GP
• Relevant healthcare professionals
Decisions will be made based on the level of risk and in line with legal obligations.

Confidentiality
Information will be shared only where necessary to protect the individual or others from harm.

Training
The practitioner will undertake safeguarding training appropriate to their role and keep knowledge up to date. (Action Required)

Review
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains compliant with current legislation and best practice.
