Mummy MOT
The MummyMOT® is a detailed postnatal physiotherapy assessment of the abdominal and pelvic area. It will check your posture, breathing, tummy gap and pelvic floor strength. Following the assessment an appropriate safe exercise programme will be prescribed.

WHAT’S INVOLVED:
Session 1: This is a virtual session via Zoom from the comfort of your own home. The session involves a detailed chat about your pregnancy, labour, any problems you may be having. At the end of this session, you will be given advice that you can immediately use to start managing your symptoms and given exercises where appropriate.
Session 2: This is a face-to-face session in a clinic and is where I will assess your posture, tummy gap and pelvic floor. Although the pelvic floor assessment is very helpful in determining how best to treat you, it is not essential if you feel uncomfortable with an internal examination. At the end of this session, you will be given exercises and advice to help manage your symptoms and help restore you to full fitness.
FAQ

1. What is a Mummy MOT® and why do I need one?
overall well-being.
2. How soon after giving birth can I have a Mummy MOT®?
You can have a Mummy MOT® as early as 6 weeks post-birth, giving your body some initial healing time. The assessment can be done up to a year or even more after giving birth, depending on your individual needs.
3. What should I expect during the Mummy MOT® session?
The Mummy MOT® session will involve a thorough discussion of your pregnancy, birth journey, and emotional well-being. The physiotherapist will assess your posture, breathing, tummy gap, and pelvic floor strength. A personalised exercise plan will be provided to address any issues discovered.
4. Is it safe to talk about my emotions during a Mummy MOT® session?
Yes, Mummy MOT® is designed to be a supportive and non-judgmental space for mothers to express their emotions and concerns. Our approach considers both physical and emotional well-being as essential aspects of postnatal recovery.
5. How long does it take to see results from a Mummy MOT® session?
Results vary based on individual needs and consistency in following the recommended exercise plan. Most clients see improvements within weeks, but it’s crucial to remember that postnatal recovery is a process, and your mental and physical well-being should continue to be a priority.
6. How do you assess my pelvic floor?
To assess your pelvic floor, we offer an internal assessment of the muscles. This involves placing 1 finger into the vagina to see how the muscles are performing – there are no speculums involved in this process and we ensure you feel comfortable throughout the process. We can also assess any episiotomy scars, or scars from tearing, at the same time. This part of the assessment is purely optional and no one should feel they have to have it done. There is no need to wax, shave or vajazzle(!) before you come, unless you’d like to.
7. Can I bring someone to my Mummy MOT appointment?
Absolutely. The Mummy MOT can include more personal assessments, so if having someone with you would help you feel more relaxed, you’re very welcome to bring them along.
As a sole practitioner clinic, we’re unable to provide a chaperone, but you can bring a trusted person with you if that feels right for you. Your comfort and choice always come first.
For more information, please see our full chaperone policy.
